OUR PASTOR
Reverend Dr. Charles R. Ramsey, Jr.
The Reverend Dr. Charles R. Ramsey, Jr. was appointed by Bishop Reginald T. Jackson to Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC) June 2023 at the Episcopal District’s Post Planning meeting in Columbus, Georgia.
Prior to this appointment he served as the Senior Pastor of Saint John AMEC in Fairburn, Georgia for six years. Under his leadership and using it as a theme, A Place of Divine Possibilities membership increased, outreach ministries expanded, and a complete renovation to the edifice was accomplished. St. John regularly welcomed Fairburn residents to special worship services, social justice initiatives and ministries designed around the COVID-19 pandemic. The church held a job fair, became a neighborhood fresh food resource, an outlet for COVID-19 testing and vaccinations as well as for the flu vaccine. Saint John also organized a Toys for Tots campaign and a Red Cross Blood Drive during the pandemic. Health and social justice programs emphasized COVID precautions to the vulnerable African American community, brought awareness to voting rights issues and participation in the 2020 Census. Social media forums were held to give expert advice from area professionals regarding many different community concerns. Partnership with Fairburn Schools, businesses, and faith-based organizations was established to expand the message and ministry of Christ.
Rev. Ramsey was prepared for these endeavors through his service at Saint Luke AMEC in Cartersville and at his first appointment at Saint Luke , Athens, Georgia. While in Cartersville, the church executed a debt-free three-part property renovation, established a comprehensive media system, and offered tutoring and outreach programs to the community. His first pastoral appointment in Athens came at a critical time as the long-standing church faced operational and spiritual challenges. Within his eight-month pastorate, the church quickly improved through spirit-led preaching, teaching and prayer, a greater presence in the community, a numerical increase in Sunday worship services, property improvements, and restored financial stability.
Rev. Ramsey honed his skills for pastoral ministry while serving as the Executive Pastor of Trinity A.M.E. Church in Atlanta, GA under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Jeffery B. Cooper, General Secretary of the Connectional AME Church. Rev. Ramsey worked for years on staff while also matriculating towards his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Under his ministerial staff leadership, he initiated “Praise in the Park,” an evangelistic innovation that led to record-breaking revival service attendance. He regularly visited the sick and participated in other pastoral care services. He was also responsible for the operations of the church’s 17,000-square-foot campus and was the Assistant Director of the 22-member staff of Trinity’s Early Learning Center.
Returning as the new Senior Pastor of Trinity brings a sense of the familiar yet something new. Under Rev. Ramsey’s leadership established ministries now have a greater focus on outreach that has already proven successful both spiritually and numerically A new partnership has begun with Toys for Tots and a great spiritual connection through prayer and presence has developed in Trinity’s partnership with West Manor Elementary School. A new Christmas Give Back to Trinity initiative was launched to fund various facility improvements. Renewing spiritual participation by both those who are in regular physical attendance and members who continue to optimize the use of various electronic media are brought together via weekly prayer, Zoom meetings, conference calls and social media activities.
The result has been spiritual, physical, and numerical growth and an increase in new members.
Charles Ramsey’s commitment to God began as a child at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Trenton, New Jersey, accepting Christ as his Savior at the age of twelve. His acceptance to his call to preach occurred while matriculating at Morris Brown College in Atlanta Georgia and while serving as the assistant to the campus chaplain. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Morris Brown College in 1998 and a Master of Divinity degree from Turner Theological Center at the Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, GA in 2003. He completed his dissertation entitled, “When the Church Hurts: Pastoring Members Through Turbulent Times with Passion and Conviction,” in December 2023 at Payne Theological Seminary, Wilberforce, OH.
He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the NAACP, and the South Fulton Ministerial Alliance. Rev. Ramsey is a product of two educators, Mr. Charles Ramsey, Sr., and the late Mrs. Winifred Ramsey, and is the big brother to Denise Ramsey of Morrisville, Pennsylvania. Since May of 2009, Ms. Robbie Allison Colson, of Macon, Georgia has been his wife and lifetime partner in ministry. They reside in Douglasville, Georgia.
